Opening Session

Welcome to Nordic Nuclear Forum 2026. The event will open with keynote addresses from Nordic ministers, setting the strategic and political context for the discussions ahead. Their opening remarks will highlight the role of nuclear energy in the region’s energy transition and underline the growing momentum behind Nordic cooperation in this critical field.

Session 1: Nuclear Energy for a Secure North

As the global energy landscape undergoes a fundamental realignment, the Nordic region’s commitment to nuclear energy serves as a pillar of regional stability. This session examines the legislative frameworks and policy pathways essential for ensuring long-term energy sovereignty. Discussions will focus on the role of institutional trust and the regulatory predictability required to maintain nuclear as the backbone of a resilient, low-carbon economy.

Session 2: Beyond Design Life – Panel session

The continued operation of existing nuclear assets remains the most cost-effective strategy for meeting climate and energy goals. This session explores the technical and economic methodologies underpinning lifetime extensions. By focusing on asset management excellence and the implementation of proven monitoring technologies, we address how to ensure decades of continued, safe, and reliable performance beyond original design parameters.

Session 3: Closing The Circle

Demonstrating excellence in the back-end of the fuel cycle is paramount to the industry’s long-term viability. This session provides a status report on the world-leading deep geological repository projects and the integration of decommissioning best practices. Participants will evaluate the management of nuclear legacies through a lens of fiscal responsibility and environmental stewardship.

27 May 2026 | WEDNESDAY | Day 2

9:00 – 17:00 NNF26 Conference, Exhibition and Business meetings

Session 4: Powering the Industry

A stable and diversified supply chain is the prerequisite for any successful nuclear program. This session addresses the strategic procurement of nuclear fuel and the industrial capacity required to support both existing fleets and new builds. We will examine the strengthening of domestic and regional manufacturing bases to mitigate geopolitical risks in the global nuclear market.

Session 5: Shaping the Future

Maintaining the highest safety and operational standards requires a robust and highly skilled workforce. This session focuses on the institutional frameworks necessary to recruit and retain the next generation of engineers and leaders. By fostering a culture of technical excellence and diversity of thought, we ensure the Nordic region remains a global leader in nuclear expertise and human capital development.

Session 6: Powering New Nuclear

The shift toward a new generation of nuclear capacity requires a convergence of stable policy and efficient capital markets. This session analyzes the transition of nuclear energy into a mainstream infrastructure asset class. We will discuss the necessity of harmonizing regulatory frameworks to facilitate predictable investment cycles and the role of industrial partnerships in driving large-scale infrastructure projects.

Session 7: Nordic Synergy

The Nordic tradition of transparency and collaboration offers a unique model for international energy cooperation. This session reviews the lessons learned from decades of joint research and operational experience. By exploring how cross-border synergy can optimize R&D investment and operational safety, we define the roadmap for a unified and secure Nordic nuclear future.
