Anne Vasara
Anne Vasara has served as the Ambassador for Circular Economy and Green Transition since 2022. Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989, she has served in various positions including diplomatic service posts in the Embassies of Finland in Morocco and Washington. She has been appointed to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, starting on 1 September 2024. She has with more than 30 years of experience in different diplomatic functions in Europe, the United States, Africa, OECD, Council of Europe, WTO and the European Union.
Annette Höglund-Dönnes
Annette Höglund-Dönnes is working as the lead of business area Clean Energy, Material and Infrastructure at Dassault Systemes (3DS), in Northern Europe. Her mission with 3DS is to support industrial players with the green transition using Virtual Twin Technology to enable mega-scale projects for new energy, circularity, and sustainable infrastructure. Antti Ketolainen
Antti Ketolainen has worked in the nuclear industry and in Fortum for more than 16 years in various roles. He has technical background in nuclear and radiation safety engineering and an extensive experience from several nuclear newbuild projects, project and portfolio management and strategical business development. Being currently in charge of Fortum’s nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management service business, offering including extensive radioactive waste disposal engineering and consultation services, Mr. Ketolainen has a deep understanding on needs and expectations from both license-holder and contractor perspectives in different life-cycle phases of nuclear facility.
Aziz Dag
Aziz Dag has been with Westinghouse since 1992. He has held various managerial positions within engineering and marketing. His prior roles include Vice President Global Product Management within the Nuclear Fuel Business Unit and Vice President, Key Accounts for the EMEA region where his responsibility was to provide leadership and coordination of marketing and sales activities for key strategic opportunities in the EMEA region. His current position is Senior Vice President, Global BWR and VVER Fuel Business. The role includes responsibility for Westinghouse commercial business for operating plants in the Northern and Eastern European region. Aziz also manages the Swedish legal entity in capacity of Managing Director. Aziz Dag holds a Master’s of Science degree in Engineering Physics from Uppsala University, an MBA from Stockholm School of Economics and is Six Sigma Black Belt certified. Aziz did also participate in Westinghouse special designed Executive Leadership Development program by INSEAD in 2016-2018.
Bernard Fontana
Bernard Fontana holds a degree in engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées in Paris. During his career, Bernard Fontana worked at Groupe SNPE, ArcelorMittal, Aperam and Holcim Ltd. where he had different management positions of which Member of the Management Committee and CEO. Since 2015, he joined AREVA NP as Chief Operating Officer and became Chief Executive Officer of Framatome on July 1st, 2016. Bernard Fontana is also Board member of Thales, SSAB, GIFEN Services, after being 4 years its Chairman and CEO; and Governance member of GIFEN, since its creation in 2018. He is also member of the High Committee for Transparency and Information on Nuclear Safety in France.
C. A. Johan Hallén
Mr. Hallén has an extensive background in the nuclear industry and is currently Vice President for Engineered Solutions for Westinghouse Electric company in the EMEA market and is based in Brussels, Belgium Over the course of more than 30 years in the nuclear industry Mr. Hallén has held a number of leadership roles in Westinghouse Electric company in USA and EMEA in the areas of nuclear automation and nuclear engineering working with multinational teams based in a number of countries in Europe, USA, the Middle East, and Africa. From 2007 to 2015 Mr. Hallén worked as account executive for the northern and eastern European markets and as managing director for Westinghouse Electric Sweden, based in Västerås, Sweden. Mr. Hallén started in the nuclear business in in ABB Atom working in the areas of nuclear engineering, as well as in inspection services. Mr. Hallén holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, he is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
Carl Berglöf
Carl Berglöf serves the Swedish Government as national nuclear new-build coordinator since Feb 2024. Carl has a PhD in reactor physics from the Royal Institute of Technology from 2010. Since 2011 he has served as nuclear industry specialist first at Vattenfall and later at the energy industry association Swedenergy. Carl has for seven years managed the Swedish Atomic Forum and thus served as the Swedish nuclear industry’s voice towards national and EU policy makers. In 2023 Carl received the Swedish Nuclear Society honorary award due to his communication skills within the field of nuclear energy.
Chris Barton
Chris Barton is His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Europe, with responsibility for encouraging trade and investment between UK and other European countries as well as Israel. Chris Barton has been HM Trade Commissioner for Europe since summer 2021. He joined the UK civil service in 1998, after 5 years as an economics teacher. Over this period, he has worked in a wide range of domestic and international-facing roles in departments for business, energy, trade, Foreign Office and No10. His trade-focused roles have included Director UK’s Trade Policy (2013-2016), Multilateral & EU Trade (2016-2019), Bilateral Trade Relations (2019-20), UK-EU Trade negotiations (2020-21), HMTC Europe (2021-present).
Daniel Wells
Dr. Daniel M. Wells is the Director of Fuels and Chemistry at EPRI. Dr. Wells joined EPRI in 2010 and prior to his current role led research activities related to pressurized water reactor (PWR) and boiling water reactor (BWR) water chemistry control, corrosion mitigation and corrosion product transport as they relate to radiation field and fuel crud generation, ion specific media development including CoSeq® and improvements to the ChemWorksTM and MULTEQ Database software packages. Before joining EPRI, Dr. Wells worked at Radiological Solutions, Inc. (RSI) as a Project Engineer involved in projects for several BWR and PWR nuclear power stations. The projects included chemical addition, corrosion product sampling, and ion-exchange resin cleaning systems; radio chemical analysis; and fuel leak inspections. Dr. Wells worked on EPRI contracted projects for RSI related to ion exchange resin testing and the patented EPRI Stabilized Chromium Process. Dr. Wells has initially worked in the petroleum industry as an Intern Researcher for Exxon Mobil Process Research on projects related to Fischer-Tropes catalyst and the low-temperature properties of lube oils. Dr. Wells received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Auburn University and his doctorate in inorganic chemistry from Northwestern University. His fields of emphasis were solid-state actinide chalcogenide and transition-metal oxide chemistries. Dr. Wells is an author of more than twenty-five reviewed scientific journal publications, numerous conference papers, and five patents.

Edvin Edvardsen
Edvin Edvardsen has recently taken om the role as senior adviser and project coordinator at the Institue for Energy Technology. Amongst many things, he will oversee projects on nuclear safety and security in Ukraine and Central-Asia, as well as serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s Nuclear Council. He is also involved in projects on competence development, technologies and decommissioning. Prior to joining the Institute, Edvin served as a civil servant in the Norwegian Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) as an adviser on international nuclear safety and security, with special focus on EEA-countries and Ukraine. He came to DSA from the role of Public Affairs Officer at Norwegian Nuclear Decommissioning. Prior to his nuclear career, Edvin was a trainee in EU-policy making in Brussels, as well as at the Norwegian embassy in Lithuania. He holds a MSc in Diplomacy from Durham University.
Frédéric Lelièvre
Frédéric Lelièvre graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées , and holds a PhD in nuclear physics. He began his career in 1996 at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in Saclay. In 2000, he moved to Alcatel where he held a number of project management positions in Europe and Asia, before heading the Business Unit for the Vertical Markets (transportation, oil and gas, utilities and defense) in the Asia-Pacific region. He joined AREVA in 2010 as head of the Projects and Prospective Studies Department within the Recycling BU, and became the Head of the Business Department for the same BU in 2011. Between 2013 & 2016 he was the Vice Chief Commercial Officer of Areva. He is now member of the Board of Framatome, Senior Executive Vice President Sales/ Regions/ I&C.
Hasan Charkas
Dr. Hasan Charkas has several years of experience in research and engineering and is a Senior Principal Team Leader in the Advanced Nuclear Technology group at the EPRI. Dr. Charkas manages a team of technical leaders on engineering design, autonomous operations, commissioning, construction, and project execution and optimization research areas to help deploy new nuclear power plants around the world. He also leads EPRI’s nuclear research on digital twins. Prior to joining EPRI, Hasan was engineering supervisor for vessel internals engineering qualifications for Framatome Inc, Lynchburg, Virginia, USA. He directed and managed engineers responsible for qualifications and stress calculations of components for nuclear steam supply systems (NSSS). Prior to joining Framatome, Hasan was a senior design engineer at Structural Group Inc, Elkridge, Maryland, USA. He designed structural and strengthening solutions for deficient and under-designed structures. He used nonconventional techniques like carbon fiber reinforced plates together with conventional engineering techniques including external post tensioning to design repair solutions for structures. Dr. Charkas delivered engineering seminars to teach structural engineers how to design external strengthening reinforcement using composite materials and taught undergraduate engineering courses. Dr. Charkas is a professional engineer licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Hasan holds a Ph.D. in structural engineering and engineering mechanics from Kansas State University, USA.
Jani Halinen
Dr. Halinen holds the position of Vice President at VTT since January 2024. He has 30 years of experience in the nuclear and energy industries and academic research. Dr. Halinen leads the Nuclear Energy research area at VTT. Before joining VTT, he was responsible for strategic business development at Valmet, a global technology supplier for the pulp, paper, and energy industries. He held various managerial and expert positions at Fortum 2005-2022, covering nuclear fuel engineering, project management, R&D, strategy and business development, and nuclear safety oversight. He has served as a board member of several nuclear companies and held governing board positions in international research initiatives. Dr. Halinen holds a doctoral degree in theoretical physics. His academic career has span work from materials physics to energy economics and market design. He has also contributed to several publications on alternative nuclear fuel cycles and alternative contracting and ownership approaches for new nuclear power plants.
Johan Börjesson
Johan Börjesson has been working in the nuclear business for more than 20 years and have experience from operation, engineering, quality and projects. Johan has a track record that contains for instance safety upgrades, power upgrades, business change projects and international missions. Since 2020 he is the deputy Managing Director of Forsmark NPP. Before entering the nuclear area Johan had a career in the automotive industry. Johan has a Master of science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor in Economics. On his spare time he enjoys culture, sports and gardening.
Kai Mykkänen
Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen leads the Ministry of the Environment. Within the Finnish Government, he is responsible for matters related to the environment, construction and housing. These include climate policy, nature and water protection, preventing environmental pollution, circular economy, construction and land use, and housing policy. Minister Mykkänen is also responsible for matters covered by the Energy Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
Kalle Heinola
Kalle Heinola, PhD, Doc., joined IAEA in 2018. He is a project officer and technical expert working in IAEA’s nuclear fusion programme. His career with fusion covers over 20 years with nearly 100 authored scientific publications. Prior joining the IAEA, he worked several years at world’s largest fusion device, the Joint European Torus (JET) located south of Oxford, United Kingdom. Kalle has been appointed as the Sub-project Leader and Board Member for EUROfusion work packages for JET. He was awarded the Academy Research Fellowship of Academy of Finland in 2017.
Laurent Kueny
Laurent Kueny is currently director for energy at the Ministry of Economics, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty of France, leading the department, which develop and implement the French Government’s energy policy. He began his career working in Nuclear Regulatory activities, first for the IAEA and, from 2006 to 2012, for the French Nuclear Safety Authority (as regional division Head and as Director of department). Between 2012 and 2015, he spent 4 years in Vienna as a counselor to the French Ambassador to the IAEA, in charge of nuclear safety and security. This diplomatic position allowed him to play an active role during the review of international agreements following Fukushima Daichi accident, regarding nuclear safety and nuclear security. He spent 5 years working in the private sector, working for Bureau Veritas, which is a world leader in Testing Inspection and Certification, first as Vice President for nuclear services and then as Vice President Group Strategy. He joined again the public sector in 2020, leading during 4 years a department of the Ministry for internal affairs in the field of cybersecurity and digital affairs. Laurent Kueny holds a Master in Science and executive engineering (Mines-ParisTech) and two university diploma in international Law. He has been lecturer in Nuclear nuclear law at the Faculty of Aix-en-Provence between 2008 and 2019.
Lionel Gaiffe
Lionel GAIFFE is currently the Senior Executive Vice President, Fuel Business Unit & Operational Excellence for Framatome. He is responsible for the worldwide operation and business for Framatome in the domain of Nuclear Fuel (11 sites and manufacturing facilities, customers are major Utilities worldwide); as well as responsible for the Operational Excellence program of Framatome (Lean Management). Lionel Gaiffe began his career in France in 1991 within the ASSYSTEM group. In 1993 he joined the MELOX plant as head of new projects, testing and commissioning. He moved to Cogema in 1996 as US MOX project manager before joining the AREVA group in 2002 as head of innovation policy. He was a board member of different research consortia and start- up funds. In 2004 he joined the AREVA NC site in La Hague (now Orano – worldwide largest commercial reprocessing site, with 20 main nuclear installations and 5000 employees), where he was first Maintenance Director, after which he became the site’s Industrial Director for five years. He was member of the La Hague Management Committee, and since 2011 he has been heading the Technical Department, which he created. In October 2014, he took over responsibility for the AREVA NP fuel production plants and also became a member of the Executive Committee of the Mining & Front-end Business Group. On 1 July 2016, he was appointed Senior Executive Vice President of the Fuel Business Unit at Framatome and member of the Framatome Executive Committee. Lionel Gaiffe is a French national, born in 1968. He is a graduate of the Ecole National Supérieure des Arts & Métiers (Paris, 1990). He obtained a degree from European School of Management (ESCP – Berlin in 2005 / Corporate Leadership Program).
Marco Brugmans
Marco Brugmans started at the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) in 2015. Since 2017, Mr. Brugmans is member of the board (vice chair) of ANVS. In August 2022, Mr. Brugmans was reappointed by the State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management for a term of five years. In 2023 Mr. Brugmans was appointed vice chair of the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG). ENSREG is an independent advisory body of the European Commission. Mr. Brugmans has a decade of experience in the field of the prevention of home and leisure accidents. He worked at VeiligheidNL, previously known as the Consumer Safety Institute, where he was director/member of the board during the final five years of his tenure. Before joining VeiligheidNL, Mr. Brugmans worked as a researcher in radiotherapy at the National Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, as well as in radiation protection with the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. Dr. Brugmans studied technical physics (MSc) at the Technical University in Eindhoven. He holds a PhD in experimental physics from the University of Amsterdam, as a result of his research performed at the FOM-Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF) in Amsterdam. In his spare time, Mr. Brugmans is Chairman of the Supervisory board of ‘Het Amsterdams Lyceum’, a high school in Amsterdam. The ANVS management board comprises a chair and a vice chair. Annemiek van Bolhuis is chair of the ANVS. While the board is collectively accountable and board members can alternate, within the board licensing is part of the portfolio of Marco Brugmans.
Marie-Agnès Berche
Marie-Agnès Berche has held management, development and project management positions in various EDF Group businesses: transport infrastructure development engineering, development of major international generation infrastructure projects, business development in Europe, and management of concession contracts in the distribution sector. Deputy Managing Director of EDF EN Services, EDF subsidiary for operation and maintenance services for EDF renewable assets in Europe from 2013 to 2017, she participates in the elaboration of the subsidiary’s strategy and development, in the governance of country branches and supervises support functions. She will lead, in residence in London, a specific mission of the subsidiary’s development in the United Kingdom. In April 2017, she was called to join EDF’s strategy directorate where she took responsibility for steering the strategic process for defining the strategic orientations of the group’s departments and subsidiaries. With her experience and know-how acquired in the field of business development, she was called to join the International New Nuclear development directorate of the EDF Group. Appointed Director of Business Development in October 2022, she is responsible, with her team, to promote EDF’s value proposition and that of the French nuclear industry in key countries embarking new nuclear programs. She completes this activity by monitoring relations with all international organizations in the field of new nuclear energy, where she coordinates the representation and initiatives of the EDF Group. She is also vice-president of the export and international commission of the GIFEN trade union association of the French nuclear industry. Berche is a graduate of the ENSTA engineering school.
Olli Soppela
Olli Soppela, M. Sc. (Eng) has worked on environmental energy technology research and innovation as an energy market analyst and project manager. He has been working on VTT’s SMR research projects since early 2022. He currently works on SMR techno-economic feasibility studies and as the facilitator of the EcoSMR-Hub network project. He is also a former executive board member of the World Energy Council – Future Energy Leaders Finland -programme.
Paul Williamson
Paul Williamson is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer working as a Technical Executive at Dassault Systemes. Paul combines a deep technical background in the development of computational analysis techniques for the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries, with commercial experience in technology development and commercialization. Paul now leads a team of specialist consultants advising the nuclear industry on effective use of digital technology throughout the asset lifecycle.
Peter Berben
Peter Berben holds a senior position at ENGIE Corporate, specifically within the Nuclear Segment. As the Head of Oversight Decommissioning Program and Radioactive Waste Management, he oversees ENGIE Electrabel’s decommissioning program, which has been in full deployment since the final shutdown of Doel 3. In this capacity, Peter supports ENGIE’s utility Electrabel by assisting in the preparations, implementation, and execution of their decommissioning projects. Additionally, Peter Berben is a respected member of various advisory boards. Notably, he contributes his rich experiences as an engineer, entrepreneur, and business development professional. Among his affiliations, Peter is part of the Expert Group Dismantling of the French Safety Authorities. Furthermore, he has been sought after for his expertise by organizations such as the semi-conductor company MAGICS.
Petra Lundström
Petra Lundström is a distinguished leader in the nuclear energy sector. With a Master of Science in Technical Physics from the Helsinki University of Technology, Petra has been a vital part of Fortum’s growth and innovation. In 2023, she was appointed as the Executive Vice President of Fortum’s Nuclear Generation Division and became a member of the Fortum Leadership Team (FLT). As EVP, she is the Chief Nuclear Officer for Fortum’s Loviisa nuclear power plant and oversees the governance of Fortum’s co-owned nuclear companies, Nuclear Services business, New Nuclear Feasibility Study, and the Engineering & Projects expert organization.
Petteri Tiippana
Petteri Tiippana, M.Sc (Eng.) has served as Director General of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) since 2013. Prior to that, he worked as the Director of Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority and Head of the Nuclear Power Plant Supervision Department since 2009 and previously in various positions of supervisor and expert at STUK.
Philippe Bordarier
Philippe has been involved in the nuclear industry for more than 20 years. After VP roles within the French Nuclear Safety Authority and the Mining Industry, he joined EDF in 2009 to be appointed Station Director of the Cruas-Meysse nuclear power station in the South of France. He developed his international management and Nuclear Operations skills as Chief Nuclear Officer for Region 2 of EDF Energy in the UK, and took the Hinkley Point C Project Director role in 2016. After different senior executive roles within the Nuclear Engineering Division of EDF, he joined Fennovoima in Helsinki as Chief Operating Officer, in charge of both developing the Owner-Operator and the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear project. He joined PEJ as Chief Nuclear Officer in January 2023 and also took the role of NPP1 Project Director in October 2023. He holds a PhD in Physics from Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris. He is a father of 4.
Rafael Mariano Grossi
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi assumed office on 3 December 2019. Mr Grossi is a diplomat with over 35 years of experience in the field of non-proliferation and disarmament. In 2013, he was appointed Ambassador of Argentina to Austria and Argentine Representative to the IAEA and other Vienna-based International Organizations. In 2019, Mr Grossi acted as President Designate of the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and from 2014 to 2016 he served as president of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, where he was the first president to serve two successive terms. In 2015, he presided over the Diplomatic Conference of the Convention on Nuclear Safety, securing unanimous approval for the Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety – a milestone in international efforts in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident. From 2010 to 2013, he served as Assistant Director General for Policy and Chief of Cabinet at the IAEA. Previously, he held several senior positions in the Argentine Foreign Service, including as Political Affairs Director General from 2007 to 2009. Mr Grossi was Chief of Cabinet at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague from 2002 to 2007. Prior to this, he held several positions within the Argentine Foreign Ministry after joining in 1985, including Chief of Embassy in Belgium and Luxembourg from 1998 to 2002, and Argentine representative to NATO from 1998 to 2001 and Argentine Alternate Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. Ambassador Grossi led several UN Groups of Governmental Experts on Conventional Arms. Rebecca Tadesse
Ms Tadesse joined the NEA in January 2019 and is responsible for advancing information exchange and studies in the fields of radioactive waste management, nuclear facility decommissioning, and legacy management. Ms Tadesse has over 30 years of domestic and international experience in the operation and radiation safety of research reactors, fuel fabrication facilities, nuclear power plants and biomedical research facilities. Prior to joining NEA, Ms. Tadesse held various senior level technical positions at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Prior to her appointment with NRC, she worked for private industry and Federal Government as a Radiation Physicist at Exelon Nuclear Corporation, General Atomics, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Ms Tadesse is a US national and holds a B.S. degree in Radiation Physics from Purdue University and an M.S. degree in Environmental Science/Policy from Johns Hopkins University.
Riku Huttunen
Riku Huttunen is the Director General of the Energy Department at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland. He has previously served as Director General of the Finnish Energy Authority and before that in several positions at the Ministry’s Energy Department. He served as Senior Sales Manager at GE Power, and also held a key role in GE Renewable Energy’s Offshore Wind division. In these capacities, he was instrumental in forging strategic partnerships and spearheading business growth through the development of innovative commercial strategies, financing solutions, and capacity agreements. His tenure also involved the pursuit of a robust localization strategy, showcasing adaptability and strategic vision. Romanowski’s extensive experience extends to his time at Alstom Power and ABB, where he effectively led sales and commercial initiatives in Poland, across Europe and expanded company’s reach across various continents. His expertise ranges from the marketing of standard product solutions to tailor-made, complex EPC projects in energy industry. With over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, Romanowski has developed a deep knowledge in business management, strategic thinking, and project management. His skill set includes an exceptional ability to navigate complex market dynamics and lead teams towards achieving significant milestones in the energy domain. Romanowski holds a degree in Economics and Management from Nicolai Copernicus University in Torun, Poland and a Diploma from the postgraduate studies at the Warsaw School of Economics, Poland.
Sasu Valkamo
Sasu Valkamo is the leader of Loviisa NPP. Valkamo started as Senior Vice President for Loviisa Nuclear Power Plant in 2022. He is also Member of the Board at Posiva. During his career in Fortum Valkamo has acted in various Vice President roles, for example Engineering and Projects, Nuclear Engineering and Co-owned nuclear and Loviisa 3 Nuclear Power Plant project. Valkamo has worked at the company for more than 30 years.
Torbjörn Wahlborg
Senior Executive Vice President Business Area Generation at Vattenfall. He is responsible for Vattenfalls nuclear power incl, nuclear fuel and waste management, hydro power and contracting and maintenance. 25 years+ of experience from the energy sector in Europe, both from the petroleum, heat and power sector. A member of Vattenfall’s executive group management since 2010. Board member in e.g. the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and Swede Energy, and is chairman of the board in e.g. nuclear power plants Forsmark AB and Ringhals AB and SKB, the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company.
