Building the Future of Nuclear – How to Attract and Retain Young Talents?

The future of the nuclear industry depends on the next generation of professionals, innovators, and leaders. At the Nordic Nuclear Forum (NNF), we believe that investing in young talent is essential for ensuring long-term competence, knowledge transfer, and continued development across the Nordic nuclear sector.

That is why NNF has actively collaborated with universities, student networks, and Young Generation (YG) association to create stronger connections between students, early-career professionals, and the nuclear industry. One of the highlights of the forum is the participation of Young Generation Sweden, which will host a session focused on collaboration to attract and develop the next generation of talent in nuclear. Through these collaborations, we aim to inspire more young people to explore opportunities within the field and become part of shaping the future of clean and reliable energy.

Young Generation Speakers – Session “Shaping the Future” – Wednesday 27th May
Founded in Sweden in 1994, the Young Generation (YG) initiative has grown into an international platform supporting knowledge transfer and long‑term competence development in the nuclear industry. YG Sweden continues this legacy through a structured one‑year program that engages early‑career professionals across the Swedish nuclear sector via expert seminars, technical study visits, and collaborative team projects.

At the Nordic Nuclear Forum, YG Sweden will host a two‑part session consisting of a brief introduction to the YG program and vision, followed by an interactive panel discussion on “Collaborations to attract and develop the next generation of young talents.” The session will engage both panelists and the audience to identify priority skills, effective collaboration formats, and opportunities where Nordic YG networks can strengthen recruitment, retention, and knowledge transfer in the Nuclear Industry

More Young Talents in NNF26
This year, students and young professionals are playing an important role in the event. Student volunteers are contributing to the organization and atmosphere of the forum, gaining valuable experience and direct access to industry experts, discussions, and networking opportunities. In addition, invitations to the event have been extended to students studying in relevant fields, giving them the opportunity to engage with the Nordic nuclear community and learn more about the many career paths the industry can offer.

We are excited about these collaborations and encouraged by the growing interest among young people towards the nuclear field. By creating opportunities for engagement, learning, and networking, we hope to support an even stronger and more connected young nuclear community in the Nordics.
