Lutz Reimers

utz Reimers was appointed Head of the newly established division for Nuclear Technologies at the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in May 2026. Prior to this he has served as head of division for Innovation, Industry and Investment at the German Federal Chancellery from October 2018 onward. In this role, he has been working on matters related to industrial policy, including energy‑intensive industries, and technological innovation, including microelectronics, space technologies, quantum technologies and AI. His responsibilities also covered issues related to the development of the nuclear fusion innovation and start‑up ecosystem in Germany.
Before joining the Federal Chancellery, Lutz Reimers held various positions at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as well as at the Permanent Representation of Germany to the European Union in Brussels (Energy and Atomic questions).
Lutz Reimers holds a PhD in Economics from the Technical University of Berlin and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of St. Gallen. His academic and research experience includes periods at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., HEC Paris and Melbourne Business School.
