Dr. Halinen holds the position of Vice President at VTT since January 2024. He has 30 years of experience in the nuclear and energy industries and academic research.
Dr. Halinen leads the Nuclear Energy research area at VTT. Before joining VTT, he was responsible for strategic business development at Valmet, a global technology supplier for the pulp, paper, and energy industries.
He held various managerial and expert positions at Fortum 2005-2022, covering nuclear fuel engineering, project management, R&D, strategy and business development, and nuclear safety oversight. He has served as a board member of several nuclear companies and held governing board positions in international research initiatives.
Dr. Halinen holds a doctoral degree in theoretical physics. His academic career has span work from materials physics to energy economics and market design. He has also contributed to several publications on alternative nuclear fuel cycles and alternative contracting and ownership approaches for new nuclear power plants.
