The hot functional testing has now been successfully completed and the schedule for the next phases has been defined. The whole commissioning is performed with utmost care, without compromise. We will have a modern and safe plant, and its commissioning will strengthen our know-how for the operating phase. -Jouni Silvennoinen, Director of the OL3 Project.
ONKALO® has aided in collecting the data needed for the application for the final disposal facility construction licence which was granted in November 2015. In addition to facilitating bedrock research, ONKALO® also provides an opportunity to develop excavation techniques and final disposal techniques in realistic conditions. Later, the ONKALO® facilities can be put into use when building and using the repository -Posiva
